My Story
I've been asked, "Why sober living?"
The most relevant answer is that I was raised in a time when I watched drugs burn through my community, turning mothers in to wolves and fathers into ghosts. I grew up in North Philadelphia in the 80's and had a front row seat to the crippling effects the crack epidemic had on my community. Watching the deconstruction of an otherwise healthy familial structure left a strong impression on me. It cemented a strong aversion to drugs, having watched both parents succumb to alcoholism and drug addiction. What it also did was left me with scars that needed healing through therapy and it was in that pursuit I learned how strong a grip substance abuse can have, how it transforms you into someone new, someone who would do things the old version of themselves never would. Pain kept me from having the compassion necessary to understand what substance abuse does to a parent, a brother, a sister, a child. It wasn't until I began to heal that I could extend the grace I held for myself to the victims of this disease. I'm an entrepreneur at heart and when I learned about the existence of sober living homes and the good they do, everything in me screamed that this was the calling for me, my chance to help give people their loved ones back, to give children their parents back.
So when people ask me why did I choose sober living, I say, life chose for me.

Our Story
Legacy Recovery Homes LLC and Cultivating Better Minds
We have partnered with Dallas Clark, Founder of Cultivating Better Minds, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial, educational, and mental health resources for formerly incarcerated individuals to successfully reintegrate into the community. Dallas was born and raised in Springfield MA and has lived through the ups and downs of addiction and the judicial system. After being released in 2017, Dallas dedicated himself to self-improvement and community activism by becoming a certified recovery coach and mentor for the Hampton County Sheriff's department.
